College Dual Enrollment
Foothill High School has partnered with Irvine Valley College to offer College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) to students who have an interest in Business or American Sign Language/Dance. Students who take these college level courses at Foothill HS receive high school graduation credit along with the college course credit. Irvine Valley College is currently offering the following courses to Juniors and Seniors at Foothill High School:

Business Pathway
This pathway is comprised of four classes - one is taken during the fall semester and three are taken simultaneously during the spring semester. Fulfills an A-G Electives requirement - each semester is equivalent to 10 high school credits. Students earn 3 college credits per semester.
MGT 1: Fall Semester
A survey in business providing a multidisciplinary examination of how culture, society, economic systems, legal, international, political, financial institutions, and human behavior interact to affect a business organization’s policy and practices within the US and a global society. Demonstrates how these influences impact the primary areas of business including: organizational structure and design; leadership; human resource management; organized labor practices; marketing; organizational communication; technology; entrepreneurship; legal, accounting, financial practices; the stock and securities market; and therefore affect the ability of a business to achieve its organizational goals.
This interactive course enables students to engage in the fundamental aspects of creatively developing frameworks of passion and purpose as a means of personal empowerment and wealth. The course promotes entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines and assists students in developing a process for transforming ideas into sustainable success. Students will examine how others overcame adversity and achieved success. The course includes individualized learning assessments designed to assist the student in exploring their frameworks of thought and entrepreneurial potential.
Kinesiology Pathway
This pathway consists of 2 classes with a selective hands-on internship. One class is taken during the fall semester and the second class is taken during spring semester. If sportsmanship and grades are maintained during fall semester, a select few students will be chosen to take the spring internship course. Fulfills an A-G Electives requirement - each semester is equivalent to 10 high school credits. Students earn 3 college credits per semester - or 1.5 credits if taking the internship.
KNES 85 – Intro to Athletic Training - Fall Semester
Covers the more advanced skills and fundamentals necessary for careers relating to sports medicine. No prior experience necessary. Prevention, treatment, recognition of athletic injuries, strength and conditioning principles, basic emergency care, taping and bracing techniques, and much more. This course is geared towards students who might be pursuing a Kinesiology, Health Science, or Pre-AT/PT major in college.
10 credits for the semester for FHS, and 3 College units for IVC
KNES 212 - Sports Medicine Internship - Spring (Selected students only)
Students will have one in-class meeting per week for the IVC spring semester. Students will observe and intern for 60 total hours to receive full credit . Working at games, practices, or in the athletic training room. Great to add to your résumé. No more traditional instruction — all practice of skills learned through KNES 85 in the fall on actual FHS student-athletes.
10 credits for the semester for FHS, and 1.5 College units for IVC
OR
NUT 2 - Sports Nutrition - Spring (if not in internship, then taking NUT 2)
Provides a thorough introduction to the principles of nutrition as applied to athletics. How nutrition affects physical performance. How to modify nutrition to maximize athletic performance and health potential. Metabolism, vitamins and minerals, hydration, ergogenic aids, special populations, weight management, and training/performance diets. An emphasis will be placed on applying the principles to designing a nutritional program for an athlete.
10 credits for the semester for FHS, and 3 College units for IVC
World Language & Visual/Performing Arts
ASL 21: American Sign Language
Fulfills an A-G World Languages requirement - ASL 21 is equivalent to two years of high school World Languages. Gives 4 college credits.
ASL 22: Beginning American Sign Language II
Prerequisite: ASL 21
This course is designed to further develop the student’s ability to understand and communicate in American Sign Language (ASL). The emphasis is on expanding ASL vocabulary and finger-spelling skills and on syntactical accuracy. This course discusses the appropriate use of sign language in various social contexts and examines cultural versus pathological perspectives on Deafness.
Fulfills an A-G World Languages requirement - ASL 22 is equivalent to three years of high school World Languages. Gives 4 college credits.

Community College General Dual Enrollment
PLEASE NOTE: Courses taken at a Community College will NOT be included on the student’s Foothill HS transcript for graduation credit unless the FHS Principal has approved such credit on the TUSD Request for Alternative Course Credit form. Most college classes serve ENRICHMENT purposes only and will NOT serve to advance to a higher level or remediate a prior grade.
General Information for Students Wishing to Take Community College Courses:

Community College classes cannot be taken for advancement or to fulfill TUSD graduation requirements (such as English, Algebra, Geometry, World Language, World History, US History, Government and Economics). For example, you cannot take Geometry at a community college to skip Geometry at Foothill or take Spanish 2 at a community college and take Spanish 3 at Foothill.

If graduation credit is granted, Community College classes count as weighted classes (10 honors level credits). Students may not earn more than 40 concurrent college credits during their four years at Foothill.

Students with an impacted schedule who need to take a visual/performing art course to meet the “F” requirement for A-G UC/CSU eligibility may be approved to take a community college course.

Foothill will add up to two (2) Community College courses to the high school transcript over the course of a student’s 4-years of high school.

Complete the following steps to apply and enroll at the Community College:
STEP 1: Find a Course

Identify the community college and the course you want to take. Examples: History of Rock Music, Art History

Make sure the class you are interested in, is not offered at Foothill.

Check the prerequisites to see if you qualify for the course and if space is available.
STEP 2: APPLY To the Community College

Follow the community college’s K-12 Concurrent Dual Enrollment Program steps on their website (see links above). If it’s your first time taking courses at a Community College, you must also create an OpenCCC account.
STEP 3: SUBMIT K-12 FORM
Submit the K-12 (Special Admit form) to Foothill HS through the online process.
If the college does not have an online process, email the completed college K-12 form PDF (Special Admit form) to ckirch@tustin.k12.ca.us
Note: For Golden West College (GWC) ONLY: Online K-12 Forms will automatically be submitted to parent email and then administration for signature.
STEP 4: ADD CLASS USING TICKET NUMBER
- Login to your college portal
- Select the course you have been approved to take.
STEP 5: Request Transcripts for Foothill:
Students must request an official transcript from the Community College be sent directly to your Foothill HS counselor within six weeks of course completion to include it on the Foothill transcript. Two ways to submit official transcripts:

Electronic: Request an official transcript be sent from the community college to Foothill HS directly utilizing the community college's transcript service (i.e. Parchment). List Registrar as the recipient. The email address is FHSRecords@tustin.k12.ca.us

Sealed Envelope: Request an official, sealed copy, of the transcript and hand-carry it to the Foothill HS counseling office.
Once the Community College grade is posted to the transcript, it cannot be removed or changed.
